Windows 7 messo a confronto con Mac OS X 10.6 “Snow Leopard” in un articolo su CNET.com.
I due sistemi operativi sono stati testati su un MacBook Pro con processore Intel Core 2 Duo da 2.5GHz, 4GB di RAM, una scheda video Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT con 512 MB di memoria. Mac OS X Snow Leopard è stato installato su un Hard disk Hitachi da 320GB, mentre Windows 7 64 bit è stato installato su un Hard disk Western Digital Scorpio Blue da 320 GB.
Per ciascun sistema operativo, durante le prove, sono stati installati i seguenti software: iTunes 9, QuickTime, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, e Cinebench R10.
Tutti sono a 64 bit, tranne Call of Duty e QuickTime. Windows 7 è stato testato con QuickTime 7 (versione 7.6.4), che è a 32 bit, e Snow Leopard è stato testato con QuickTime X, che viene fornito con il sistema operativo.
I risultati dei test vedono Snow Leopard più veloce nel boot e nello shutdown
Snow Leopard boot: 36.4 seconds
Windows 7 boot: 42.7 seconds
Snow Leopard shutdown: 6.6 seconds
Windows 7 shutdown: 12.6 seconds
Snow Leopard “wakeup”: 1 second
Windows 7 “wakeup”: 1 second

Snow Leopard più veloce anche con iTunes
Snow Leopard iTunes conversion (17 songs, MP3 to AAC): 149.9 seconds
Windows 7 iTunes conversion: 161.9 seconds

Mentre Windows 7 risulta migliore nel 3D image rendering (Cinebench R10)

Windows 7: 5,777
Snow Leopard OS X: 5,437

Windows 7 ottiene un risultato migliore anche con Call of Duty
Scores for Call of Duty 4:
Windows 7: 26.3 fps
Snow Leopard: 21.2fps
