Il 56% degli utenti di telefonia mobile in Italia sono dotati di Smartphone, e Android è il sistema operativo più diffuso tra i dispositivi mobili. È quello che emerge da una ricerca di Nielsen Italia. Nel 2010 il sistema operativo più diffuso per dispositivi mobili era Symbian, che ha poi perso via via quota di mercato, e nel terzo trimestre del 2012 ha ceduto il passo ad Android, che con il 36% dei dispositivi mobili è diventato il più diffuso sistema operativo mobile. A seguire Symbian con il 30%, iOS con il 10%, BlackBerry con il 5% e Windows Phone con il 2%.

L'avanzata di Android porta il mercato italiano ad una struttura più simile a quella del mercato americano o inglese, dove Android è già da molto tempo il sistema operativo mobile più diffuso. A contribuire all'avanzata di Android sono soprattutto i giovani che, secondo lo studio, il 39% dei possessori di dispositivi Android ha meno di 34 anni. Altro fattore da tenere in considerazione è quello del costo dei dispositivi. Gli utenti Android dichiarano di spendere la metà per i loro dispositivi rispetto a chi possiede dispositivi equipaggiati con iOS.

Le applicazioni sono i servizi evoluti con il maggior tasso di crescita nel terzo quadrimestre del 2012, con il 19%, seguite dalla messaggistica istantanea, con il 15%, e dal mobile commerce, con il 14%.

Annunciato il rilascio del Qt SDK 1.2

  • Qt 4.8 for desktops delivering Qt Quick 1.1, Qt platform abstraction, Qt WebKit 2.2, and threaded OpenGL.

  • Ability to specify network proxy setting in the SDK Maintenance Tool
  • Update to the Symbian Complementary Package introducing Analyze Tool plugin and new CODA 1.0.6 installation package
  • An update to Notifications API improving the end user experience and fixing issues in the Nokia N9 implementation of the API.

Qt SDK 1.2 is available and provides:

  • Qt Creator 2.4.1: offering improvements in the C++ and QML editors, such as syntax highlighting in QML, and improved static QML code checking features.
  • Symbian target updates:
    • Updated Nokia AnalyzeTool plug-in to take full advantage of Qt Creator 2.4.
    • Added CODA 1.0.6 (on-device debugging) agent.
  • Updated MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan target.
  • Over 20 new Qt Mobility examples, which are now easily assessable from the Qt Creator welcome page.

Nokia ha annunciato il rilascio di una technology preview di Qt 4.8. Il codice sorgente è disponibile per il download in formato zip qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.8.0-tp.zip, e in formato tar.gz qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.8.0-tp.tar.gz. Il rilascio della beta di Qt 4.8 è previsto nelle prossime settimane, mentre il rilascio della versione finale è previsto per la seconda metà del 2011.

Qt 4.8 will be a release containing a lot of quality and performance improvements that were carried out during the last 12 months, such as File System performance improvements. It also includes the Qt Platform Abstraction (Lighthouse) feature, which enables easier porting of Qt into new graphics systems for third parties. Today’s Technology Preview is released to get your feedback, comments and improvement ideas.

Nokia ha annunciato il rilascio di una technology preview di Qt SDK 1.1, la prossima edizione del kit di sviluppo software per il framework di interfaccia utente Qt.

The target of the Qt SDK 1.1 is to easily get started with Qt Quick development on Symbian, Maemo5 and the desktop. Specifically this means
  • Qt Creator 2.1RC, which includes the first iteration of tooling support for Qt Quick. For all details, check our latest post about Qt Creator
  • Qt 4.7.1 for Symbian (Symbian^1 and Symbian^3) is bundled in the toolchain and is also available as sis packages to install on your phone.
  • Qt Mobility 1.1 for Symbian targets (both Symbian^1 and Symbian^3) adding many new features and fixes
  • The N900 target allows development with Qt 4.7
  • Qt Simulator uses Qt 4.7.1 as well as Qt Mobility 1.1 as a basis for development

Symbian Foundation ha annunciato (http://bit.ly/h6okgk) che i suoi siti saranno chiusi entro il prossimo 17 dicembre. Symbian Foundation sta lavorando per far si che la maggior parte dei contenuti accessibili tramite web (come il codice sorgente, kit, wiki, database dei bug, documentazione di riferimento), relativi a Symbian il sistema operativo per dispositivi mobili, sia disponibile in una qualche forma, molto probabilmente su un DVD o su un disco rigido USB, che saranno concessi su richiesta alla Fondazione Symbian.
Comunque per preparare questi contenuti ci vorrà del tempo, quindi il materiale non sarà distribuibile prima del 31 gennaio 2011. È possibile che venga chiesto un contributo per i media e la spedizione.

Secondo una ricerca di mercato effettuata da Gfk (http://bit.ly/i23qd5) Android ha sorpassato Symbian nel terzo trimestre (luglio-settembre) del 2010 nella classifica del sistema operativo mobile più popolare sia per unità vendute e sia per valore del continente asiatico.
Il mercato degli smartphone è in continua crescita sul mercato asiatico, con oltre 4,7 milioni di unità vendute, per un valore di oltre 1.48 miliardi di dollari, nel terzo trimestre di quest'anno.
