Oracle ha annunciato il rilascio di NoSQL Database 2.0, DBMS non relazionale

New and enhanced features in Oracle NoSQL Database 2.0 include:

• Better Performance: enterprise-class elasticity with near linear scalability and under five millisecond latency enables users to dynamically grow a cluster as their data grows with no interruption in service. In recent performance tests, Oracle NoSQL Database 2.0 delivered more than a million YCSB operations per second on a 2.4 terabyte database on an 18-node commodity cluster setup. (1)
• Automatic Rebalancing: dynamic management of compute and storage resources to maintain SLAs in response to increased demand and changing processing requirements;
• Enhanced Manageability: a simple, easy to use web console to manage all aspects of deployment and monitoring, as well as document management and structured data management in one product;
• New APIs: a new C API helps improve developer productivity, a new Large Object API supports efficient Large Object management, and new automatic serialization APIs simplify application development;
• Tighter Integration with Oracle Database: Oracle Database users can view and query Oracle NoSQL Database records directly from SQL via External Tables, making NoSQL data immediately accessible and available for integrated analysis;
• Improved Management & Monitoring Support: SNMP/JMX support enables integration with Oracle and third party management tools;
• Improved Hadoop Integration: tighter integration with Hadoop through JSON object and schema evolution support for data storage and serialization using Avro.

Il World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) ha annunciato che le specifiche per HTML5 e CANVAS 2D, reperibili rispettivamente a questa pagina e a questa pagina, sono state completate e sono adesso "Candidate Recommendations". Questo non significa che sono già uno standard, ma che gli sviluppatori possono usare queste specifiche per l'implementazione e la pianificazione.

HTML5 è la pietra angolare della Open Web Platform, un ambiente di programmazione completo per applicazioni cross-platform con accesso alle funzionalità del dispositivo, video e animazioni, grafica, stile, tipografia, e altri strumenti per l'editoria digitale, capacità di rete estese, e altro ancora.

W3C ora intraprenderà la fase di standardizzazione dedicata alla interoperabilità e test. Durante questa fase, il W3C HTML Working Group effettuerà una serie di attività per garantire che le specifiche possano essere implementate con tutti i browser, client e-mail, server, sistemi di gestione dei contenuti (CMS), ecc. L'HTML Working Group ha la durata di questa fase fino alla metà del 2014, dopo di che il W3C prevede di pubblicare la raccomandazione finale HTML5.

W3C ha inoltre annunciato il rilascio della prima bozza per HTML 5.1 (disponibile a questa pagina) e Canvas 2D livello 2 (disponibile a questa pagina).

Oracle ha effettuato l'update di Java 7 SDK. JDK 7u10 è adesso certificata per Mac OS X 10.8 e Windows 8.

The JDK 7u10 release includes the following enhancements:

• The ability to disable any Java application from running in the browser. This mode can be set in the Java Control Panel or (on Microsoft Windows platform only) using a command-line install argument.
• The ability to select the desired level of security for unsigned applets, Java Web Start applications, and embedded JavaFX applications that run in a browser. Four levels of security are supported. This feature can be set in the Java Control Panel or (on Microsoft Windows platform only) using a command-line install argument.
• New dialogs to warn you when the JRE is insecure (either expired or below the security baseline) and needs to be updated.

Exactly one year after the Spring Framework 3.1 release, I'm pleased to announce that Spring Framework 3.2 is generally available now!

As previously discussed, key features in Spring Framework 3.2 include:

* Refined Java SE 7 support within the framework as well as through upgrades to CGLIB 3.0, ASM 4.0 (both of which we're inlining now) and AspectJ 1.7
* Concurrency refinements across the framework, avoiding the use of synchronization wherever possible – in particular for scoped/prototype beans
* Allowing for @Autowired and @Value to be used as meta-annotations, e.g. to build custom injection annotations in combination with specific qualifiers
* Support for custom @Bean definition annotations in @Configuration classes, e.g. in combination with specific qualifiers, @Lazy, @Primary, etc
* Asynchronous MVC processing on Servlet 3.0, with Spring MVC handler methods being able to return Callables and DeferredResults
* Inclusion of the formerly-standalone Spring MVC Test project, allowing for first-class testing of Spring MVC applications
* Support for loading WebApplicationContexts in the TestContext framework, and further improvements for web application testing
* Early support for JCache 0.5 (JSR-107) as a backend for Spring's cache abstraction

Il 56% degli utenti di telefonia mobile in Italia sono dotati di Smartphone, e Android è il sistema operativo più diffuso tra i dispositivi mobili. È quello che emerge da una ricerca di Nielsen Italia. Nel 2010 il sistema operativo più diffuso per dispositivi mobili era Symbian, che ha poi perso via via quota di mercato, e nel terzo trimestre del 2012 ha ceduto il passo ad Android, che con il 36% dei dispositivi mobili è diventato il più diffuso sistema operativo mobile. A seguire Symbian con il 30%, iOS con il 10%, BlackBerry con il 5% e Windows Phone con il 2%.

L'avanzata di Android porta il mercato italiano ad una struttura più simile a quella del mercato americano o inglese, dove Android è già da molto tempo il sistema operativo mobile più diffuso. A contribuire all'avanzata di Android sono soprattutto i giovani che, secondo lo studio, il 39% dei possessori di dispositivi Android ha meno di 34 anni. Altro fattore da tenere in considerazione è quello del costo dei dispositivi. Gli utenti Android dichiarano di spendere la metà per i loro dispositivi rispetto a chi possiede dispositivi equipaggiati con iOS.

Le applicazioni sono i servizi evoluti con il maggior tasso di crescita nel terzo quadrimestre del 2012, con il 19%, seguite dalla messaggistica istantanea, con il 15%, e dal mobile commerce, con il 14%.

If you've been around WordPress a while, the most dramatic new change you’ll notice is a completely re-imagined flow for uploading photos and creating galleries. Media has long been a friction point and we’ve listened hard and given a lot of thought into crafting this new system. 3.5 includes a new default theme, Twenty Twelve, which has a very clean mobile-first responsive design and works fantastic as a base for a CMS site. Finally we’ve spent a lot of time refreshing the styles of the dashboard, updating everything to be Retina-ready with beautiful high resolution graphics, a new color picker, and streamlining a couple of fewer-used sections of the admin.

Annunciato il rilascio della versione 3.7 del Kernel Linux

Whee. After an extra rc release, 3.7 is now out. After a few more trials at fixing things, in the end we ended up reverting the kswapd changes that caused problems. And with the extra rc, I had decided to risk doing the buffer.c cleanups that would otherwise have just been marked for stable during the next merge window, and had enough time to fix a few problems that people found there too.

There's also a fix for a SCSI driver bug that was exposed by the last-minute workqueue fixes in rc8.

Other than that, there's a few networking fixes, and some trivial fixes for sparc and MIPS.
